Copyright laws
I think copyright laws are overall good, but at the same time bad. The good part is that if you create something unique, it becomes your intellectual property and is protected by copyright law which will prevent anyone else from claiming your work as theirs. Also no one will be able to use your work without your consent. This is great because you are given full ownership and credit. This is also a way to profit from your creations. The bad part of copyright is all the copyright ownership from large corporations. Large corporations buys the rights to hundreds and thousands of work by artist and profit from it. This creates a problem for those artist who are not represented by these corporations. These larger corporations have almost complete control over the mediums in which the artist’s work gets to us. So as a society, we lose out on the smaller talent which may be more talented, but does not have the financial support of the corporate giants. Another negative about copyright laws is that artist cannot work like they used to. For years, artists have always sampled their predecessors’ work and have incorporated it into their work; making a completely new work. Now with copyright law, an artist is in fear of using such a method for fear of legal action by the original work’s owner. Such companies are specifically created to sniff out any unauthorized copyrighted work in order to make money from it with legal action. This hinders creativity and quality.
